Update 25th March 2012 (26 Mar 2012) Update 25th March 2012 Hello Everyone, No planning application has been submitted yet by npower to Huntingdon District Council for the proposed Wind Farm at Molesworth. The latest news on Public Enquiries for wind farms in our area has been mixed. It would appear a single Planning Inspector can overturn the views of the District Council and strong local opposition to permit the siting of wind turbines in inappropriate places because of the presumption that the wider benefits attributable to the project justify approval despite the impact on the local area. * Bicton wind farm at Kimbolton the inspector for the public enquiry turned down the application by the energy company Broadview to overturn the decision by Huntingdon District Council to refuse planning permission. Great news for the Action Group which has worked tirelessly to counter the energy companies claims at the appeal hearing. More details can be found on the Action Group website http://www.stopbictonwindfarm.org.uk * Stop Woolley Hill wind farm action group at Ellington the inspector has allowed the appeal by RES and planning permission has been granted for 4 turbines to be constructed near Ellingotn. Further information can be found at http://stopwoolleyhillwindfarm.org * The Barnwell Manor wind farm, near Lyveden New Bield, again the inspector has allowed the appeal by the energy company permitting 4 wind turbines to built near this historically important site. More details can be found at http://www.stopbarnwellmanorwindfarm.org.uk A new action group has set up in our area opposing the installation of three 126 metre high turbines at Southoe near Grafham Water. Action group details and further information can be found at http://www.stopcommonbarnwindfarm.com In order to support the stand the 100+ MPs made in writing to the Prime Minister and increasing media coverage on the subject of the unsuitability of wind turbines for sustainable, cost effective energy supply, it is important to write stating your views, to the Prime Minister and your local MP. You need to send your letters to :- Prime Minister & First Lord of the Treasury, 10 Downing Street, Westminster, London SW1A 2AA. For those of you who live in the Huntingdon area your MP is likely to be Shailesh Vara and his email address is VARAS@parliament.uk and for East Northants it will be Louise Mensch louise.mensch.mp@parliament.uk If you have not already done so please can you sign the petition REDUCE ELECTRICITY BILLS BY REFORMING THE SUBSIDIES FOR WIND FARMS on the HM Government Petition website http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22704 ""By reducing or ending the subsidies for wind-farms, we would benefit the poorest members of society, boost our manufacturing exports and, while doing so, would help protect what remains of our precious countryside."" You may have seen in the news over the weekend that over 100 MPs have written to the Prime Minister urging a rethink over the subsidies given to wind turbines “we ask the Government to dramatically cut the subsidy for on-shore wind and spread the savings made between other types of reliable renewable energy production and energy efficiency measures.” Follow this link for the letter http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/windpower/9061554/Full-letter-from-MPs-to-David-Cameron-on-wind-power-subsidies.html The letter also states “We also are worried that the new National Planning Policy Framework, in its current form, diminishes the chances of local people defeating unwanted on-shore wind farm proposals through the planning system.” Also please see the link below for the article in the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9061997/101-Tories-revolt-over-wind-farms.html It is important you write in the next few days, stating your views, to the Prime Minister in support of these MPs and copy in your local MP and any local or national newspaper to demonstrate that the views of these MPs are representative of the majority of those living in rural areas which are under threat of industrialization from wind turbines being erected less than a kilometre from their homes. As you know our local area has 3 planning decisions pending from appeals made by energy companies and at least a further 2 proposed planning applications. You need to send your letters to :- Prime Minister & First Lord of the Treasury, 10 Downing Street, Westminster, London SW1A 2AA. No planning application has been submitted yet by npower to Huntingdon District Council for the proposed Wind Farm at Molesworth. There has been some activity by the energy company, we understand they have been making enquiries at Huntingdon District Council concerning planning fees. We have also received an email from RWE Communications Team for Molesworth Onshore Wind Farm stating “Since our public exhibitions, we have been in contact with key stakeholders including the local grid operator, Cambridgeshire Highways and others regarding the proposed wind farm. Once we have finalised our proposal, we will submit a planning application to Huntingdon District Council and update the local community by sending out newsletters which I am happy to send you also electronically. Should you wish to discuss the proposal, we would be prepared to meet with you in the new year when we are ready to update the community.” We will obviously keep you posted on any further developments. Can I urge to write to your MP (email addresses given below) as a matter of urgency to ask them to support the MP Chris Heaton Harris’s Onshore Wind Turbines (Proximity of Habitation) Bill 2010-11, it has its second reading on the 20th January 2012? “The Bill would give powers to local authorities to specify in their neighbourhood development plans (defined as in the Localism Bill) a 'recommended best practice set-back distance' between onshore wind turbines and habitations. It includes recommendations for this set-back distance, calculated as a multiple of the turbine rotor diameter.” More information can be found at http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2010-11/onshorewindturbinesproximityofhabitation.html For those of you who live in the Huntingdon area your MP is likely to be Shailesh Vara and his email address is VARAS@parliament.uk and for East Northants it will be Louise Mensch email address louise.mensch.mp@parliament.uk Please could you write in the next week to ensure the MPs receive your correspondence in enough time to act upon it. Another area of interest is the BBC ""That's Britain"" programme. Those of you who watched it last Wednesday on BBC 1 at 7.30pm would have seen wind turbines featuring on the Talk to the Wall feature. The aim is to raise general awareness of this issue by pushing ""Wind Turbines"" to the top spot by getting as many people as possible to email the programme expressing why ""Wind Turbines"" are of concern to them. Please email the programme on talktothewall@bbc.co.uk making sure you use WIND TURBINES as your subject heading. There are many areas you can discuss such as the large subsidies, unreliability of supply, fuel levies on our electricity bills to fund them, high cost of wind power helping to increase fuel poverty, destruction of the countryside.. The list goes on and on. Again if you can encourage all members of your household, friends and relatives to email we might be able to get this issue discussed on a popular prime time television programme. It is definitely worth spending a few minutes to try to achieve this.
